Sick most of last week. Missed purchasing an apparently sold out Caligula #1. Luckily, I found this:
Butcher Baker: The Righteous Maker #1
Joe Casey is one of those writers I know more from his interviews than his actual work, a lot of which hasn’t hit me enough to be a regular buyer (though I might be buying a Godland trade in the future). He can’t seem to write a hit that works in spite of what seems to be the publishers’ best efforts. In the world of TV, he’s prospered. In comics, he can’t seem to catch a break, which is probablly why he doesn’t much in comics anymore. All the copies of his comic came to the store this week a bit tattered. I hope this isn’t sybollic of the book’s fate even as it ends with no sign (aside from preview pages) that there’s any further plot to pursue, as if Casey expects the book to die on the vine. Scenes like this aside (which I’m sure will sell a few copies), it amuses me how much Casey and especially artist Mike Huddleston are channeling Marshall Law in the overall look of this. I am interested. Good luck, Mr. Casey.
