Yesterday Disney/Pixar released a trailer for their new animated feature “Brave” due out this June.
The film is about a young princess (and what Disney movie isn’t about a princess) who goes against the established order in her Scottish kingdom to pave the way to her own destiny but must encounter some grizzly errands to do so. I say “grizzly” because I think there’s a bear involved…
“Brave” also has a strong cast featuring Kelly Macdonald (Trainspotting, HP7 part 2 and Boardwalk Empire) Emma Thompson (Prof. Trelawney from Harry Potter) Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting, Grey’s Anatomy) Robbie Coltrane (Hagrid from Harry Potter) Billy Connolly (Boondock Saints and the Hobbit) Julie Walters (Mrs. Weasly from Harry Potter) and Craig Ferguson (How to Train Your Dragon) So if they were doing drugs in Trainspotting or hanging out Harry Potter and dragons, chances are they’re in this movie!
I can’t wait for this; Disney/Pixar has a consistent record of producing quality films, a rare gem these days. Seriously, can you think of a bad Pixar movie? What’s also great about this piece is that it also features what appears to be a strong female character, also a rare gem.
Hopefully with this film and the upcoming “Hunger Games” we’ll be seeing more features with strong female leads who don’t need to be saved by a dude in tights…or any dude for that matter.
