This is less a review and more an attempt to quickly write something about this issue before I run off ot it to my friend’s daughter. In lieu of the not to frequent Owly books, this has become her regular fix sometimes, especially with the Marceline And The Scream Queens spin off mini-series out now).
This is safe for kids of most if not all ages (though they may be scratching their heads at Shannon Wheeler’s backup on time travel or Zac Gorman’s mildly disturbing one-pager). It has my highest recommendation in this regard. Also, I challenge the parents to grab a copy and not be charmed by the dialogue.
Adult mainstream comic readers, on the other hand, might have a problem. In the Adventure Time comic’s current storyline (continuing since issue #6) a Finn and Jake time travel storyline brought about by one Princess Bubblegum’s genius and Jake’s irresponsibility. Two issues in, it is already everything Flashpoint is not (casual parents reading this, I will not link or explain Flashpoint, it’s for the best). The snappy and often hilarious dialogue reads better than any of the eleven Bendis books out this week.
Read this while your in the shop, and you’ll feel yourself being ripped off just standing next to the so-called adventure themed cross-over crazy comics by most of Marvel and DC that try to do what creators Ryan North, Shelli Paroline and Braden Lamb do in any single issue of Adventure Time. Take this as your only comic for the week, and your bag will not feel light. This is a must read for just about any comics reader, friends.
Molly’s waiting for this book. Gotta go.
